Choose Format 6 if your parts are integral to a military contract..

Choose Format 12 if your parts are integral to a commercial aerospace industry contract (ATA Spec 2000)..

Choose Construct 1 if part serialization is within the enterprise.

Example

You manufacture parts named PART-NO1 and PART-NO2. A serial number for PART-NO1 could be 12345 and a serial number for PART-NO2 could be 12346.

With Construct 1 every part manufactured has a unique serial number. Serial numbers will never be repeated within the enterprise.

Choose Construct 2 if part serialization is within the part number.

Example

You manufacture parts named PART-NO1 and PART-NO2. A serial number for PART-NO1 could be 12345 and a serial number for PART-NO2 could be the same, 12345.

With Construct 2 there are unique serial numbers for each part number but a serial number may be repeated elsewhere with the enterprise is used with different part numbers.
